We are happy to announce that the artist who will open the art season at Providence is a she: Brie Harrison. Spotted on Instagram, her colorful, naive and inspired by nature universe seduced us right away. She tells us about where she comes from, her career, and inspirations, and how she ended up at Providence.
“I come from Suffolk in the east of England. I moved away to study when I was 21 and lived in Brighton, then New York, then London for many years but I’ve just returned last year back to a beautiful and small town on the river called Woodbridge. I never thought I would go home but I’ve realized how creative and calming it is to be there.
I trained as a textile/surface pattern designer but was surrounded by Illustrators so I ended up becoming freelance and spending some time focusing on moving my work over to this area. My first Illustration job was for a card company called Art Angels back in 2007.
I have always been inspired by the natural world- in particular plants from home and from my travels.
My boyfriend is French and he grew up between Lille and the Basque country so he brings me here whenever he can. We discovered Providence spending time here last summer and then I kept up to date with what you were doing through the wonderful world of Instagram. I love the atmosphere of Guéthary and Providence captures it perfectly.
I am working on some new greetings cards to add to my range towards the end of the year and I am also starting to draw some pieces for a music album which is something I’ve never done before.
Exhibition opening Saturday May 27th, 7pm at Providence.
